Treacherous Love

forbiddenloveShe could understand when he would arrive because her heart skipped a beat. It was as if she had a telepathic sensor locked with his presence and she could sense him coming a mile away. She found herself longing for the moment she would see him again and couldn’t wait for the time to pass until that ‘next time’. She knew it was wrong. But she couldn’t help it.

She hoped he felt the same. He seemed to show that he did. She felt so safe and natural with him. As if the entire world disappeared in his arms, melting away in his kiss. But it never lasted for more than a few hours. And that prickled her heart like a rose losing its petals and having only its thorns remain. And as time passed, it hurt all the more.

They both knew it was wrong. Their society would not accept it. She was betrothed to someone else. Someone she had never seen before the day of her wedding. And he returned home to another. One others chose for him. She couldn’t stand the thought that someone else was sharing the most private moments of his life. She wanted that to be her. She wanted to be the extension to his arm.

They moved into this relationship knowing what they were getting into. They promised it would be carnal, to satisfy the lust they felt for each other. Yet, she fell deeper. She allowed herself to fall in love with him. To get stuck onto a reckless path, one she nonetheless enjoyed. And each time she saw him, talked to him, touched him, she was swept away further. Into a loop she knew she would never be able to untangle from. She found herself begging him to stay when she knew she should not even be there. His name constantly echoed in her mind. He was all she could think of and kept hoping he did the same. She could not step back though. Not now. Because they were both in too deep. And, quite frankly, she didn’t want to either.

Nothing safe is worth the dive. So maybe, she thought, it’s not really about that happy ending that they know will never come. It’s about the story they share together. And maybe that would make it all worth it. Because some hearts are meant to be broken, so that others can find their happiness.

Love that never ends

It is strange how you find things and people
that will change your life
in places you never expect them to be.

Behind a door
in a conference hall
behind some books you never read.

But that is enough to light a flame
That will burn strong and never cease.
One that will make you braver and better in every sense
That will reinvigorate and launch a dream.

1116 days were well spent
full of a love never before felt
filled with passion and overwhelming care
of affection you never knew was there.

37 months of laughter and smiles
of fun in every form and place
of enjoying life and its surprises
of learning to enjoy whatever came.

159 weeks of fighting the world
of trying to convince people that didn’t care
of putting the view of others’ first
and realizing that was a big mistake.

1116 days of a burning flame
of surviving the thunder and rain
of lasting apart for a number of days
and growing closer and stronger together.

1116 days of sharing
a love and friendship like no other
of experiencing true affection
of dancing under a starry sky.

How can you stop a love so strong?
Just switch off all affection?
For the flame continues to burn
and no matter if the love has ended
it will never stop.

The easiest ‘hello’s are the hardest ‘goodbye’s

breakup3-800x400Mark fell in love with Nadine the minute she walked in the door. Her large round eyes reminded him of a squirrel lost in a huge park looking for its acorn. She was adorable and he knew that a spark had been ignited. She was the girl he was waiting for and he would do whatever he could to enchant her. A love is only as powerful as the strength of its constituent mutual feelings.

Nadine seemed lost. She did not know where she was in life. All her dreams seemed to dissolve and everything appeared so much harder in reality. This was not what she had hoped to experience. She was indeed lost. And then she met this charming young gentleman who made her laugh whole-heartedly and to whom she could confide her thoughts, feelings and worries. He was the shoulder to lean on when all else disappeared.

The spark grew and the flame was brighter than ever. Winds and tornadoes tried to blow it out but somehow they both managed to keep it alight.

But then Lady Discord opened her wings and the flame began to die out. The couple fought more often about silly things and they began to even question their very relationship. The one they struggled so far to maintain.

When Mark surpassed his limits one day and yelled at Nadine everything he was holding back so long, things that no one would want to hear from their loved one, from the person that was supposed to stand by them, Nadine knew that something had to change.

So she made the leap. And left. With a broken heart and an uncertain dream.

When she went to Lille she hoped things would be different. That she would finally realize her dreams. That she would find the opportunities she longed for and be liberated from the crushing sense of inadequacy that was drowning her.

Mark was inconsolable. He even flew to Lille and tried to find her. But how do you find a needle in a haystack?

He was waiting for her in the central square for six hours. She knew it as the time-stamp on his mobile messages proved, but she never appeared.

He left with the hope that she would see his message. The one that said “I was here looking for my heart. You took it and I cannot live without it. Or without you”.

Inspired by the story of a 22-year old Greek boy who flew to Lille to apologise to his ex-girlfriend (who was there on Erasmus) for foolishly breaking up with her after an incredible two months.
